Judicial hopefuls get 'well qualified' ratings

The Dutchess County Bar Association has announced its ratings of the candidates running for countywide judgeships in November. The bar group has rated Joan Posner, candidate for Family Court judge, and James D. Pagones, candidate for re-election as Surrogate Court judge, "well qualified." Thomas O'Neill, candidate for Family Court judge, received a "qualified" rating.
Last month, Posner and Pagones were rated "Qualified" by the Independent Judicial Election Qualifications Commission which covers Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Putnam and Westchester counties. "Qualified" is the commission's highest rating. O'Neill did not submit an application to be rated by this commission.

Mary Lou Heissenbuttel, longtime Poughkeepsie resident, writes that the election of Posner will follow the tradition of past family court judges. Damian Amodeo, who will be retiring from the bench, was George Marlow's law clerk for many years. When Marlow was elected Dutchess County supreme court judge, Amodeo was elected family court judge. Now 20 years later, Posner, court attorney (chief legal counsel) for Amodeo, is the best possible candidate for family court judge.

The Dutchess County Democratic Party unanimously nominated Joan Posner on May 22nd as its candidate for Family Court Judge. Joan was nominated by Roger Higgins, Chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature, who emphasized her extensive experience in Family Court and additional work on behalf of families and children in the community.  Posner’s nomination was seconded by Lucille P. Pattison, retired County Executive.

Hyde Park Democrats unanimously endorse Joan Posner stating that. "It would be a relief to anyone who enters the family court system to see such a caring person on the bench."

October 18, 2007- Poughkeepsie Journal
Joan received the Woman of Grace award from Grace Smith House, an agency that provides shelter and transitional housing to victims of domestic violence.

May 15, 2005 - Poughkeepsie Journal
Joan received the 2005 Joseph F. Gagliardi Award for Excellence from the Westchester County Bar Association.
